Drum Major
Audition
A drum major needs to have a deep musical understanding in order to be a guide the band towards musical success. In the audition, you need to demonstrate attentiveness to detail, grit to make the music sound as accurate as possible, and musicianship.
You will need to complete an audition that consists of a solo excerpt that will be provided ahead of time, 2 major scales provided ahead of time, a chromatic scale, and a sightreading excerpt.
Finally, you will conduct to a recording of “Great Balls of Fire” and “Light ‘em Up”. A recording will be played, and you will conduct along. Your conducting should demonstrate dynamics, even flow of time, and should demonstrate your understanding of the score. If you would like to practice and receive feedback before the audition, please set up a time during Power U with Ms Howard at least a day in advance. If you need a copy of the score, please see Ms Howard - you will need a copy in order to demonstrate a complete understanding.
Interview
An interview will be held to demonstrate professionalism, an ability to communicate and for the judges panel to get to know you better. You are expected to dress professionally, speak clearly, and be honest with the judges panel.
You will be provided with a sample question list before the interview and the interview will take place after the audition portion of the application process.

A drum major needs to be able to take over the rehearsal at any moment and still lead the band members through a productive rehearsal. You will lead a 10 minute teaching demonstration. You will be given a goal at the beginning of your 10 minutes. You are expected to provide both individual and group feedback.

Colorguard Captain
Audition
To audition for guard captain, you will be required to run through the warm up routine twice, perform your work for "Great Balls of Fire" to a recording, and teach a member of the judges panel how to perform drop spins.
In the performance portion, you are expected to perform as if you were on the field; this includes projection of energy to the audience and accuracy of timing.
In the teaching portion, it is recommended that you approach teaching one step at a time. Speak clearly and provided "do-able task" to the student. This is to gauge your error detection and how you approach teaching in a positive and constructive way.

Field Manager, Uniform Intern, & Historian
Field Manager
The field manager will be in charge of setting out cones in the parking lot, setting up yard markers, and setting up the long ranger before rehearsal starts. This person will help make sure that the band will always have an efficient rehearsal and that our band always has somewhere to practice after school.
Uniform Intern
The uniform intern is for a rising sophomore or junior that can learn the complex system that is sizing and maintenance of the marching band uniforms to run as the lead uniform manager in the following year. This person will work closely with our uniform manager to ensure that the band always looks great and that our uniforms stay in great shape.
Historian
The historian will take pictures of the band for social media and the website. Teach members about tradition and band history, assist with organizing Homecoming, and Senior Night, and reach out to alumni to develop an alumni association.

You will need to submit a printed copy of a letter of intent and a résumé. If you need a sample of either of these or need Ms. Howard to print either of these, please reach out ahead of time in order to have it turned in on time.
