Instructional Staff & Student Leadership

Director of Bands - Katie Howard

Katie Howard is a native of Salisbury, NC; she graduated from East Rowan High School before attending UNC Greensboro to study Music Education. She is a trumpet player and has performed in the 2017 US Army All American Marching Band, the Honors Performance Series Orchestra in Carnegie Hall. While at UNCG, she performed in the UNCG Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, University Band, and the UNCG Pep Band, "The Bands of Sparta".

During her time at UNCG, Ms. Howard was a selected as a quarterfinalist in the National Trumpet Competition Small Ensemble Division with UNCG and founded an all women's brass quintet called, "Minerva Brass".

Outside of being a musician and teacher, Ms. Howard enjoys kayaking, crochet, and playing with her dog, Max, and cat, Mo!

Guard Instructor - Linzi Johnson

Linzi Johnson is from Kannapolis, NC. She is currently teaching first grade at North Rowan Elementary School. She graduated from Western Carolina University in 2020 with a Bachelor's in Elementary Education. Prior to working with WRHS, I participated in four seasons of colorguard and six seasons of winterguard. Outside of her job, she enjoys dancing and cooking!


Woodwind Instructor - Sarah Burris

Sarah Burris is the woodwind instructor for the upcoming Marching Falcons' season. She is a graduate of Western Carolina University where she marched with "The Pride of the Mountains" Marching Band. She is currently an English teacher at West Rowan High School; "I hold a huge passion for music in my heart. I look forward to being a part of this musical community, and to help it grow! Go Falcons!"

Percussion Instructor - Seth Blevins

Seth Blevins is the percussion instructor for the Marching Falcons. Mr. Blevins graduated from UNC Greensboro with a degree in music education. During his time at UNCG, he performed with the UNCG Wind Ensemble, University Symphony Orchestra, and the UNCG Percussion Ensemble. Mr. Blevins was a part of one of three colleges selected percussion ensemble to perform at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. 

Mr. Blevins has severed as a percussion instructor at several schools across the piedmont region of North Carolina and as the front ensemble instructor for indoor percussion performing ensembles. Mr. Blevins currently serves as the music teacher at Hurley Elementary School!

Outside work, Mr. Blevins enjoys kayaking, disc golf and playing with his dogs, Sasha and Willow, and his cat, Mo!

Drum Major & Woodwind Captain - Kimber Loos

This year's drum major and woodwind captain is Kimber Loos! This is Kimber's 3rd year with the Marching Falcons. She plays flute and piccolo. Her favorite memory is the first time the 2022 Marching Falcons performed "I Rise" for the first time at a home game. "The thing I am looking forward to the most is seeing how much our band grows together and as individuals"!

Percussion Captain - Charles Menius

Meet our Percussion Captain, Charles Menius! This is Charles' 4th year with the Marching Falcons. "My favorite memory is going to the competition at Porter Ridge and getting to compete and see other bands play. I’m looking forward to playing at Friday night football games".

Colorguard Captain - Ashley Elorza

This year's colorguard captain is Ashley Elorza! This is Ashley's 3rd year with the Marching Falcons. Ashley is in both the colorguard and in our winterguard. One of her favorite memories is sitting in the cold bleachers at Cox Mill, bundled up after a performance last fall. "This moment assured me that I made the right decision by being a part of the Marching Falcons - I am extremely excited for this upcoming fall season but specifically, I am most excited about band camp. It's such a special time to bond and work hard on our show and technique. If we give it all we got it will set us up for a remarkable season. Can’t wait to get to work"!
